Kids Singing Lessons
Kids Singing Lessons and Vocal Coaching
develop your child's singing ability
I am a professional singer with 16 years experience performing in a variety of disciplines including solo singing, ensemble a cappella, musicals, theatre and opera from the age of 9. Read more about me and my experience.
As I begun singing lessons at a young age myself, I have a thorough understanding of how to best ensure that children's singing lessons are kept fun, engaging and safely develop your child's voice.
The voice is a very delicate instrument, and it is very common for us to pick up bad habits. By starting singing lessons young, I am able to intervene before these habits have a chance to set in, setting your child's voice up for safe, healthy progression. You are never too young to begin learning good singing technique!
I specialise in classical vocal training, but have experience performing and coaching jazz, folk, musical theatre, classical-crossover and popular genres. I offer lessons to children looking to improve and enjoy using their voice, whether it be in preparation for a school performance or graded music exam, or those who are simply wanting to develop their singing ability.

My Singing Teaching Experience
During my undergraduate BMus (Hons) Music degree at King's College London, I studied operatic singing at the Royal Academy of Music. Having subsequently completed a Masters degree in Text and Performance from RADA & Birkbeck College in 2017, I have developed a well-rounded knowledge of performance and vocal technique.
I have obtained a wealth of knowledge on the anatomy of the voice and how to nurture it in its infantile stages to ensure that the voice remains healthy to develop successfully.
I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for several years, many of which have gone on to study Music or Performance in further education, performed regularly in public, or simply expanded their enjoyment in singing!
I have taught many young students from complete beginners, and will ensure that they always enjoy the songs that they are working on in a safe, educational and fun setting.
What Happens in a Kids Singing Lesson?
Starting singing lessons can be daunting for anyone at any age, so I always ensure that my lessons are fun, friendly and enjoyable for your child. Once we have established what sort of music your child enjoys and what their goals are with their singing lessons (whether it be to begin preparing for a school performance, considering singing exams, or just for fun!) we will begin by giving our body a quick warm up.
When we get tense or nervous, the voice sits in an uncomfortable place. It is important to get rid of this tension before we begin to sing, which will also make your child feel more at ease! This quick body warm up will include some basic stretching, face stretches and easy to follow breathing exercises.
We will then move on to some fun and easy vocal warm up exercises. I will cover basic vocal technique in these warm ups to ensure that your child is breathing properly, and placing their voice in the right place to prevent any vocal damage further down the line.
We then move onto working on songs. Depending on your child's performing goals, I can coach them on pieces to prepare for school performances, auditions or music exams, or simply songs that they enjoy singing. I can advise on suitable songs for their age and ability, and will always take their personal music preference into account.
I also have experience teaching children with learning disabilities, and have worked extensively with charities over the years; I have seen firsthand how powerful and freeing engaging in music and singing can be for children with learning disabilities.
I am happy to discuss all of your child's requirements, goals and ambitions on a free phone call consultation.

What Age Children Do You Teach?
I teach students of any age and ability. I believe you are never too young or too old to learn how to sing!
I provide children's singing lessons on either on a one-to-one basis or in small group lessons.
One-to-one lessons offer a more personal and concentrated focus on your child's voice and vocal development, and are the most popular lesson option for those looking to progress their vocal ability quickly with thorough, in-depth coaching.
Small group lessons can be beneficial for children who may find the prospect of a one-to-one lesson daunting to begin with, who may wish to progress to one-to-one lessons in the future. This may be particularly beneficial for siblings or family members wishing to work on songs together. Small group lessons also provide us with the opportunity to work on harmony skills, song arranging and are particularly effective for musical theatre work and those looking to work towards Duo or Group LAMDA exams.
Where Are Your Lessons Taught?
My kids singing lessons are delivered from my fully equipped private studio in Thame, Oxfordshire, which is easily accessible by car (free parking), bus, or a short walk from Thame High Street.
Children interested in Singing Examinations
I have a 100% pass rate of taking students through ABRSM and Trinity exam syllabi from initial grades through Grade 8 in both standard singing and Musical Theatre exams.
Singing exams can be a great way of preparing your child for future performances, providing them with an achievable goal to work towards and develop their confidence in their singing and performing ability.
Having received a high Distinction mark in my own ABRSM Grade 8 Singing exam prior to attending university, I am confident in my ability to ensure that students receive the highest level of support and training through their exam preparation and enter at a time where they are confident in their ability to pass with the highest marks possible.
